Boarding Policy

What to expect of us

Our goal is to provide the most stress-free environment possible for your cat. This means something different for each cat. Our boarders’ health and well-being is our utmost concern, and, while our procedures are molded to suit individual cat needs, here are some standard rules we follow.

  • Daily Monitoring: For the duration of each cat’s stay, a record is kept detailing appetite, urine, and stool with weight checks on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. When abnormalities arise, appropriate measures are taken to correct the problem.
  • Exercise Time: Each cat is allowed one at a time or Family household at a time outside their kennel at their own choice to play, stretch their legs and exercise each morning. Some cats can become stressed during their stay and choose to stay to relax in their cage.

Food and Belongings

To reduce the chance of any gastrointestinal upset, stress, or loss of appetite, due to a sudden food change, it’s best to bring your cat’s food to last them through their scheduled boarding. If you’re unable to provide food, we provide adult dry food at no additional cost.

Blankets, food/water bowls, and litter pans are ALWAYS available for your cat and there is no need for you to bring extra items. Should you leave an item for a familiar scent, and it ends up soiled and needs to be washed; items that enter the wash are cleaned with bleach for sanitary reasons and may be discolored upon return.

Fleas

The Cat Hospital at Palm Harbor maintains a flea-free facility. Your cat will be examined on admittance and if fleas are found they will have a topical flea medication applied and an oral medication administered at our current fee.

Intestinal Parasites

If your cat should have diarrhea during their stay at the Cat Hospital, an intestinal parasite examination of their stool will be performed at our current fee. Treatment will be administered if necessary.

Examination/Vaccines

For cats that receive medications or other special needs, we require an examination with one of our doctors. Your cat’s health is our highest priority, and we want to ensure that we are providing the best possible care while they are boarding with us. Please ask our staff for details.

We require that all cats be current on their rabies and FVRCP vaccines.

Hurricane Season Policy

Hurricane Season in Florida is from June 1st-November 30th

To ensure the health and safety of our guests, we require a local emergency contact during your kitty’s boarding stay for pick up. In the event of a hurricane, if you or the emergency contact are unable to pick your cat up, your cat will be moved to an interior location within The Cat Hospital for the duration of the storm. Depending on the storm severity, our staff may be unable to access the practice to provide food, water or medication. Once staff can safely return to the practice, your kitty is our priority and will be attended to immediately.
